Taieri College Performing Arts Centre
MOSGIEL.
After the Taieri College Hall was destroyed by fire, Baker Garden Architects were engaged to design and manage the construction of a brand new facility.
The completed 400 seat Performing Arts Centre represents exceptional value for money. This was achieved through a close working relationship between the Architects and the full consultant team where different options were tested and value managed to achieve an outcome that met the colleges need and the MOE budget.
Otago Girls High School New Music Suite and Circulation Hub
DUNEDIN.
The new Music Suite at Otago Girls High School has provided much more than just a modern music teaching facility and recording studio. A new lift tower and circulation core has provided access to the schools Performing Arts Centre at the lower level and to irst floor classrooms.
The steep site was a challenge for the designers and the builders, however the resultant facility has been able to solve a number of accessibility issues for the school as well as providing a magnificent new arts teaching facility.
Dunedin North Intermediate
Administration Block Upgrade
DUNEDIN.
The Dunedin North Intermediate (DNI) administration block and entrance was well overdue for an upgrade. Baker Garden worked closely with the school to produce a solution that ticked all the boxes.
The old outdated administration block was demolished to make way for a clear and accessible entry courtyard for the school.
Modern and light reception area and administration offices were created. A a multi use foyer space has added a new dimension to the usefulness of the school hall.
The project also included compliance and accessibility upgrades.
University of Otago School of Music and Performing Arts
DUNEDIN.
The University of Otago engaged Baker Garden Architects and CCM Architects from Wellington to design a new center for the School of Music and Performing Arts. The school had been spread over seven different locations throughout the campus.
The University expressed a desire to establish a place where the department’s identity can be expressed, encompassing the 3 strands: Music, Theater and Performing Arts. A state of the art recording studio was at the center of the project along with a number of smaller practice and recording spaces providing the right acoustics for activities.
The project was a combination of new build and extensive refurbishment of existing facilities.
